Albany is never going to be sports town. I grew up in Syracuse and no matter what suburb you lived in, you'd tell people you were from Syracuse. In this area, you'd say you are from Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Clifton Park, Colonie, Guilderland, etc. It is much tougher to have a sense of solidarity to support a team when you consider yourself from somewhere else.

The highway system was not set up to make it easy for people to get from their town to downtown Albany, either. It might be more miles, but someone in Clifton Park would have an easier time going up to Glens Falls then Albany.

The bottom line is that this might be the 35th media market, but market for sports teams is much smaller.

Didn't Albany also lose a NLL team in the Albany Attack in the late 90's or early 2000's?
